Irony... Do you think that what government does doesn't matter to you?
Wednesday, May 16, I listened to the floor debate in the U.S. House of Representatives debating a bill introduced by the Republican leadership which seeks to replace the Violence Against Women Act which passed by the U.S. Senate with one that omits Native American women who are violated by non-native Americans when the abuse occurs o...n a reservation, and omits violence against LGBT victims, and omits violence against non-citizens.
Later that afternoon, while waiting at McHenry County College, I spoke with a thirty one year old mother of 3, who is an immigrant married to a man who drinks heavily and is physically and emotionally abuse to her. Because he was the one to get the green card to allow them to be here, and work legally, if she leaves him, she would be forced to leave, and likely to leave her children, the youngest of them never having lived in their native country.
If only people could know the pain of others as their own. Then, the admonition of Christ that we love thy neighbor as thy self would be realized, and we would be able to heal each others pain, rather then perpetually creating it.
I posted this on Joe Walsh's facebook site, it didn’t last long. But before it was deleted, and a woman left a comment, "It's not other people's pain that matters." -- I'd say that just about spells out the core beliefs of the Right in this country. No one else matters, it doesn't matter who you hurt, as long as you benefit personally -- The hedonistic ethic.
