Parades

Would anyone be interested in meeting to discuss putting together a Parades committee for the McDems? The first two parades are the Woodstock Memorial Day Parade on May 26 (application due on May 1), and the Harvard Milk Days Parade on June 7 (application due May 16).

This is one of the best ways for McHenry County Democrats to show their pride in their party and their candidates. Walking in Parades is one of the funnest activities to participate in, and it's a wonderful way to get new people involved in our efforts.

  • Great.
  • Walking with a cannidate is definetly something I’m intrested in. and have already visited the link to Dennis Andersons site thank you for sharing that with me.
  • Johnna, The Democratic Party of McHenry County has not walked in parades as a party since 2011. The party leadership has made a decision to supplement the volunteers for individual candidates who choose to walk in parades, as we did for County Board Member Paula Yensen and Congressional Candidate Dennis Anderson for the Memorial Day Parade in Woodstock. As of this point I’m not personally aware of a candidate which has made a decision to walk in the Crystal Lake Independence Day, though I would not be surprised if the Dennis Anderson for Congress Campaign would choose to do so. I’d refer you to the Anderson website for information on their upcoming dates (dennisanderson14.com). If there are plans for a Candidate to walk in a parade, either in Crystal Lake, or elsewhere in the County, would you be interested in walking with the candidate?
  • Was there a time whenthe Mchenry County Democrats were at the fourth of july parade in Crystal Lake?

Needed are people with creative decorating skills (if we are to put together a float, or use a vehicle), people willing to make phone calls to known Democrats to recruit volunteers, Parade walkers, and drivers to shuttle walkers from the end of the parade route back to their cars after the parade. It would also be nice to identify someone to take on task of leading this committee.

We also will need donations to help us pay for parade entry fees, parade decorations, and the stickers and/or other handouts to give out along the parade routes.

If you want to have some fun displaying your pride for your values, your party and your candidate, come join us and have some fun working with others who share your values.

Unfortunately, a lack of interest in recent years has caused the local party to stop doing parades in the past couple of years, and the vote totals in much of the county has reflected this reduced interest. We need to show Democrats in this county that the demographics have changed, that the party of “no” doesn’t rule our part of the world! So, let me know if you’d like to participate and perhaps we can put together a meeting to discuss ideas, and get started putting something together which will cause Republicans in this County to quake in their boots!

If I’ve included you in the email by accident, please let me know so I can omit you from further emails of this future.
