Okay, Representative Melissa Bean voted in favor of Democratic plan for Change. Well done! My representative, Don Manzullo, on the other hand, voted against healthcare reform. He just about never votes in the public interest, certainly not mine. 220-215 was last night's vote.
Today, fired up and ready to go means committing to helping Senators Durbin and Burris as they negotiate for healthcare reform votes in the senate. Also, it means committing to helping the campaign of Mayor Gaulrapp of Freeport. We absolutely must maintain a majority in the House. And we will need to support either Alexi Giannoulias or David Hoffman after the primary. (you all know that I am a fan of Alexi.) We have got to keep a progressive democrat in the senate seat that was Barack Obama's.
If congress ends up deciding to leave it up to the individual states as far as how much of these healthcare reforms get put into action, it will become even more critical to hold on to our democratic governor. The next big task after healthcare reform has got to be JOBS. Our will need our democratic governor to help put that task into the kind of action that will help us, the working people of Illinois.
We have a charge: recruit democratic volunteers for neighborhood turfs, precinct representatives, phone banking, house & yard gatherings. Help grow the local democratic party. We cannot allow the other party to have a free ride to a free reign. Once again it is time to recognize the urgency of NOW and take action.
