Think globally, act locally

The eleventh annual Thomas Jefferson Dinner will explore how decisions we make at the local level can impact every nation on the planet, and change forever the future of our world. If America is indeed, the last best hope for Earth, our civilization depends on what we do locally, nationally and globally.

Access to clean water is a human right

Our immense oceans, once thought to promise boundless food supplies and natural resources, are dying. Our lakes, rivers and aquifers are a source of nearly unlimited fresh water. Yet many people do not have access to safe drinking water. Love Canal and Flint stand as monuments to our short-sighted abuse of the environment, driven by political corruption and corporate greed. Oil companies profit handsomely from fracking while destroying our ground water. Government bureaucrats have decided that lead in our drinking water is just the price we must pay to make their rich friends a little richer.

The powerful and politically connected have decided who gets fresh air to breathe and clean water to drink. Those who live downwind and downriver are the working class, people of color, and children. The powerless have no choice.

It’s time to speak truth to power

From Flint, Michigan to Charleston, West Virgina, from the Animas River to McCullom Lake, we wonder if our planet is safe for human habitation. While America's future is being decided by the one percent who control the economic and political agenda, working families are poisoned while they try to make ends meet. The oligarchs are no longer content with a contest always rigged in their favor. They've decided that only they should get to play the game.

Some think the American Dream and clean water should be reserved for the fortunate few with stock options and a case of Ice Mountain. But America can't afford to be so cruel. The Democratic Party is ready for this fight. Are you?
