Roskam supports tax plan

U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill., the U.S. Ways & Means Tax Policy chairman, was one of three congressmen to speak before the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago on Monday where he argued that when the House tax bill is looked at in its totality, it's a great deal for the average middle class family - and will make America the best place in the world to do business.

"I am not chasing perfect. I'm chasing good," Roskam said of criticisms of specific line items.

"So is there $1.5 trillion in debt? Yes there is. But here's what we get out of it: we get something that is ascending. We get something that is increasing in value. We borrow in our businesses, we borrow to buy a home because it increases in value," Roskam told the group. "We're proposing to get two things out of this: a tax code that's updated ... This tax code hasn't been updated since the Bears won the Super Bowl." Since then, new types of businesses have come online, including Uber and Airbnb.
