Board Reporters are our eyes and ears
Effective, government should be transparent and open to public scrutiny. Becoming a Board Reporter is one way we keep an eye on our elected officials and how they operate.
By attending city, village, township, school, library, park, or fire districts' board meetings and reporting back, you can alert us to board actions and proposals of concern, as well as board members who are extremists and should be challenged at election time. Many of the meetings can be accessed online or by Zoom - you can watch from your couch!
Many of the “savings” from Trump, Musk, and DOGE's cuts at the federal level will downshift costs and responsibilities to the state and/or local governments. For example, the federal “savings” in grants mean the loss of state and/or local revenues and services. To cover the costs, state and local governments will need to increase their taxes, which means voters won't be saving, but instead will be paying for the services they need out of a different pocket. By asking questions of the board during public comment, Board Reporters can make sure the truth of the impact is made public.
To find a board in your area to watch, email [email protected] and include your address, email and phone number. We will start by letting you know the jurisdictions that are near you to pick from...and there are always County Board meetings and committee meetings to monitor!
