Local Action & Parades

“Action is the antidote to despair,” said Joan Baez. Our local party has a long tradition of voicing our opposition to injustice, corruption and intolerance. In our darkest moments, when all seems lost, we still have the First Amendment.

Volunteer Days at the Crystal Lake Food Pantry

Please Note: Volunteers still needed!

Due to COVID-19 concerns, the Crystal Lake Food Pantry is implementing social distancing practices.  Volunteers are needed to fill boxes for our neighbors in need - and volunteers will not have direct contact with those picking up the pre-filled boxes.

Home bound neighbors who need assistance from the food pantry are receiving home deliveries.  This home delivery service will be expanded.

Volunteers are also encouraged to volunteer on other days throughout the month.  If you are unable to volunteer in person, please consider donating food or money.

-------------------------------------

As part of the Democratic Party's continuing commitment to community service, we have established Democratic Party Volunteer Days at the Crystal Lake Food Pantry.  Volunteer opportunities include: client greeter, food sorter/inspector, client exit door volunteer, general maintenance and cleaning.

Pantry hours on Saturdays are 9 am to Noon.  Please consider signing up for a shift from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm on the second Saturday of the month (or, if you can't stay until noon, then for as long as you can be there).

To volunteer:

  • Click on the RSVP button to let us know you're going to volunteer
  • Then
  • Go to www.clfoodpantry.org
  • Scroll down and click on the Volunteer box
  • Locate the Volunteer Handbook and familiarize yourself with the operation of the Pantry
  • Click on SignUp.com to confirm your volunteer date
  • When you arrive at the Pantry, check in with the Team Leader

If you have any questions, contact John Labaj at 815-356-8952.  Remember, the needs are great, but the rewards are greater.

The McHenry County Democratic Party is cancelling all events until May due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 virus, based on guidance from the state and concern for our members.

McHenry County Human Race - 2020

The McHenry County Human Race event has been cancelled.

The McHenry County Human Race, hosted annually by the Volunteer Center McHenry County, has been cancelled based upon County and State recommendations and an over-abundance of concern for the health of our community.

The event scheduled for April 26, has over 70 nonprofit organizations registered as beneficiaries of the race participants fundraising efforts.  Although the race itself won’t happen, community members are still encouraged to donate on the event page in support of local nonprofits and can even set up a fundraising page to support their charity of choice.

“The environment Covid-19 has created will impact our nonprofits greatly; many of which provide services to vulnerable populations within our community.  In the coming weeks and months they will face the challenges of closed programs, cancelled fundraisers and a minimized work force,” said Rebecca Stiemke, Executive Director for Volunteer Center McHenry County.  “It’s important that we still take the time to rally around our nonprofit community and support them by donating to their causes.”

The Human Race website will remain open until April 30 to receive donations.  All fees and pledges collected will be distributed as originally intended. It is important to note, one hundred percent of any pledge made will be given directly to the nonprofit it was directed to.

To support a nonprofit through the Human Race initiative, visit https://www.volunteercentermchenrycounty.org/humanrace.html.

REV Project McHenry

Join us in The REV Project- Recruit, Engage, Vote!

This is a grassroots Democrat-to-Democrat outreach effort to identify those who share our Democratic values and engage them to vote.

This is THE most important election of our generation. We need every Democrat to vote in November. To do this we need to first identify and connect with them, then get them to vote. The REV Project will do this, but we need you to make it happen.

We will be meeting every Sunday at the DPMC Woodstock Office to head out in teams to reach those who share our values. You will receive top-notch training before you head out into a neighborhood. Come with a friend or we will pair you up. All you need to bring is your charged phone, comfy shoes, and a smile.

Let's work together and win our democracy back.
