McHenry Residents: Attend the McHenry Township Special Meeting
The extremist new Republican trustees of McHenry Township have refused to conduct a cost-benefit study as directed by unanimous vote of Township residents at the April 6, 2018 annual meeting regarding their intention to abolish the Township Road District. They are proceeding with the referendum to abolish against the citizens' wishes. To make matters worse, they have no plan and apparently no idea what alternatives they will consider to replace it.
In addition, in order to sabotage the Township, they have voted to chop by as much as half the compensation of all full and part-time officers (Supervisor, Highway Commissioner Assessor and Clerk), and would eliminate pay for all future trustees. If the adage holds that "you get what you pay for" we can expect few qualified individuals to have an interest in serving once the pay cuts take effect.
This meeting will give McHenry Township voters the opportunity to send a loud, clear message to the Trustees (Bob Anderson, Mike Rakestraw, Steve Verr and Stan Wojewski) that we:
- expect them to honor the direction we voters have given them;
- withdraw and nullify the referendum they have illegally placed on the ballot;
- want to know what their plans are in the event the Road District is abolished;
- prohibit such a referendum until a cost-benefit study is done;
- restore the compensation of Township officials until the next Board takes office.
We will have the opportunity to vote on the following two agenda items:
1. That minimum annual salaries and meetings compensation of persons serving as Township Officers shall be restored and remain so restored through the succeeding term of office, as follows:
- Supervisor: $97,610;
- Highway Commissioner: $106,919;
- Assessor: $87,994;
- Clerk: $14,242;
- Trustees: $100 per meeting.
2. That no referendum or ballot measure consolidating or eliminating the administration of Township or Township Highway District property or the administrative offices and functions thereof shall be certified to be put before the voters absent reference to and public release of a definitive successor plan and a creditable cost-benefit study comparing the proposed alternative(s); any such ballot measure or referendum already so certified shall be immediately decertified by the Township Clerk and withdrawn; if not withdrawn it shall be rendered null and void.
