The adults have returned
But the children in Congress are still having a temper tantrum. Let's gather for some adult beverages (or your favorite soft drink) and celebrate the return of sanity to the White House.
Please RSVP if you plan on attending. Use the Zoom button below to join this virtual event when it's time for the meeting to begin. We'll be meeting in person again once it's safe to do so.
Time: Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. Central
When it's time to Drink Liberally:
On this day in history
February 10, 1962: American spy pilot Francis Gary Powers was released by the Soviets in exchange for Soviet Colonel Rudolf Abel, a senior KGB spy who was caught in the United States five years earlier. This ended the infamous U-2 spy plane incident, which had increased Cold War tensions and embarrassed the Eisenhower administration.
February 10, 1972: A relatively minor rocker named David Bowie became the spaceman Ziggy Stardust. While it might be said of many such historic moments—like John meeting Paul at a backyard birthday party, or Elvis ad-libbing “That’s All Right (Mama)” between takes at Sun Studios—that their significance became clear only in hindsight, there was at least one man who knew exactly where Ziggy’s earthly debut would lead: David Bowie himself.
Drinking Liberally is an informal, inclusive progressive social group. Raise your spirits with us while you raise your glass. Share ideas with friends new and old. Drinking Liberally gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics or any other topic that comes to mind. You don't need to be a policy expert and this isn't a book club — just come and learn from peers, trade jokes, vent frustration and hang out in an environment where it's not taboo to talk politics. Don't worry if you don't drink alcohol. Many of our members prefer soft drinks.
Drinking Liberally is a nationally chartered non-profit. It is not affiliated with the Democratic Party. Learn more about Drinking Liberally and Living Liberally at www.livingliberally.org/drinking
