Let's celebrate the new year at Jameson's Charhouse in Crystal Lake
Join us at Jameson's Charhouse on Wednesday, January 11, at 7:00 p.m. to eat, drink, socialize, and meet some like-minded people. If you are ready to get out and mingle with your progressive friends again, this is your chance. Ask for the Drinking Liberally group at the door, or look for our Drinking Liberally table sign. Space is limited, so make sure to RSVP if you plan on attending.
On this day in history
- On January 11, 1908, U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt declared the massive Grand Canyon in northwestern Arizona a national monument. By the end of the 19th century, the Grand Canyon was attracting thousands of tourists each year. One famous visitor was Roosevelt, a New Yorker with a particular affection for the American West. After becoming president in1901 after the assassination of President William McKinley, Roosevelt made environmental conservation a major part of his presidency.

On January 11, 1935, in the first flight of its kind, American aviatrix Amelia Earhart departed Wheeler Field in Honolulu, Hawaii, on a solo flight to North America. Hawaiian commercial interests offered a $10,000 award to whoever accomplished the flight first. The next day, after traveling 2,400 miles in 18 hours, she safely landed at Oakland Airport in Oakland, California.
Drinking Liberally is an informal, inclusive progressive social group. Raise your spirits with us while you raise your glass. Share ideas with friends new and old. Drinking Liberally gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics or any other topic that comes to mind. You don't need to be a policy expert and this isn't a book club — just come and learn from peers, trade jokes, vent frustration and hang out in an environment where it's not taboo to talk politics. Don't worry if you don't drink alcohol. Many of our members prefer soft drinks.
Drinking Liberally is a nationally chartered non-profit. It is not affiliated with the Democratic Party, but we do encourage your attendance if you are looking for a fun and relaxed way to get involved. Learn more about Drinking Liberally and Living Liberally at www.livingliberally.org/drinking
