Clerk Tirio Should Publicly Reject President Trump’s Call for Nationalized Elections
Crystal Lake, IL - The Democratic Party of McHenry County is formally calling upon County Clerk Joe Tirio to publicly disavow recent statements from the President of the United States advocating for the federalization of local and state elections.
As the chief election official for McHenry County, Clerk Tirio has a fundamental responsibility to protect the integrity, independence, and localized administration of our voting process. The President’s recent rhetoric suggesting a shift toward federal control threatens the long-standing Constitutional principle that elections are managed at the state and local levels, a system designed to ensure accountability and prevent centralized interference.
Protecting Local Oversight
The administration of elections in McHenry County should remain in the hands of the professionals and volunteers who live here. Efforts to centralize election authority at the federal level undermine the trust of McHenry County voters and ignore the unique needs of our diverse community.
"The bedrock of our democracy is the local control of our elections," said Ruth Scifo, Chair of the Democratic Party of McHenry County. "Our residents deserve to know that their Clerk stands for the independence of our local precinct committeemen, election judges, and staff, rather than yielding to partisan calls for federal consolidation."
A Call for Non-Partisan Stewardship
The Democratic Party of McHenry County believes that election integrity is not a partisan issue. By disavowing calls for federalization, Clerk Tirio can affirm his commitment to:
- Local Accountability: Ensuring that McHenry County remains the sole authority over its ballot processing and security.
- Voter Confidence: Reassuring residents that their voices are heard through a transparent, locally managed system.
- Constitutional Standards: Upholding the Tenth Amendment, which reserves the power of election administration to the states.
The Democratic Party of McHenry County urges Clerk Tirio to put the interests of our voters above national political agendas and stand firmly in defense of local election autonomy.
