Our Capitol still stands.
Our democracy still stands.
The temple of American freedom was defiled in a violent attack by deranged Trump cultists on Wednesday, January 6. What we saw on TV was real, but it was inspired by a fantasy imagined in the fevered mind of one Donald J. Trump, soon to be the former President of the United States. At present, there are six dead and many injured. We narrowly avoided a far worse death toll. Let's gather virtually to talk about this challenge to the Constitution and the American democracy that we nearly lost.
Use the Zoom meeting link below to join this virtual event. We'll be meeting in person again once it's safe to do so.

When it's time to Drink Liberally:
On this day in history
January 13, 1990: Douglas Wilder, the first African American to be elected governor of an American state, takes office as Governor of Virginia. Wilder broke a number of color barriers in Virginia politics and remains an enduring and controversial figure in the state's political scene.
January 13, 1966: President Lyndon B. Johnson appoints the first African American cabinet member, making Robert C. Weaver head of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the agency that develops and implements national housing policy and enforces fair housing laws. In keeping with his vision for a Great Society, Johnson sought to improve race relations and eliminate urban blight.
Drinking Liberally is an informal, inclusive progressive social group. Raise your spirits with us while you raise your glass. Share ideas with friends new and old. Drinking Liberally gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics or any other topic that comes to mind. You don't need to be a policy expert and this isn't a book club — just come and learn from peers, trade jokes, vent frustration and hang out in an environment where it's not taboo to talk politics. Don't worry if you don't drink alcohol. Many of our members prefer soft drinks.
Drinking Liberally is a nationally chartered non-profit. It is not affiliated with the Democratic Party. Learn more about Drinking Liberally and Living Liberally at www.livingliberally.org/drinking
