We Need You for the Coordinated Campaign

You can make a difference this election right here in your own county by being a part of the Coordinated Campaign effort.  We have identified 60 precincts that we believe are particularly receptive to our message.  We are targeting a few of these precincts each weekend from now until September 9th for canvassing.  What can you do?  Join us in going with a fellow volunteer door-to-door listening to our neighbors about the issues they care about and sharing information about our candidates.  It doesn't take much time - just a couple of hours. It doesn't take any experience - we will train you.  It doesn't take your resources - we will give you everything you need.

We need 20 volunteers each Saturday and Sunday from now until Sept. 9.  The shifts are:

    • Saturdays at 10 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm
    • Sundays at 1 and 3 pm.

If you can bring a friend, a spouse, a neighbor, to be your partner.  If you have a favorite candidate that you are supporting, that's great!  You can spread the word about them and help other Democrats at the same time.

    The dates and locations:

    • August 18 & 19 - District 2 - 665 Green Brier Ln, Crystal Lake
    • August 25 & 26 - District 1 - (location TBA)
    • September 1 & 2 - District 4 - Mahady for IL Senate Campaign Office, 4213 W. Elm St (Rte 120), McHenry, IL  60050
    • September 8 & 9 - District 3 - (location TBA)

Be the change! Get involved! The time is now. We have great local and statewide candidates, but they need our help to get the job done.  Commit at least 2 hours to build the wave in McHenry County.

McHenry County Clerk Mary McClellan maintained that sites which were no longer polling locations would have signs directing voters to their new polling locations. This was not done in District 2. Ran into many voters trying to find their new polling location. As one voter put it, “the Clerk is supposed to encourage voting by making it easy, not by making it difficult to find where to vote.” Additionally, placing a handicapped accessible sign on the door to a polling locations does not make it so. Many site while advertising accessibility were in fact not accessible.

    Stop Voter Suppression Now!

    ballot box

The McHenry County Clerk has decided to eliminate dozens of polling locations in 2018, presumably in an attempt to save money. The Clerk has not provided evidence that this plan will save any money at all, but it will definitely make it harder for thousands of citizens to vote. As many as 10 precincts are being crammed into one location. Parking will be at a premium at many of the consolidated locations, especially for elderly and disabled voters. The right to vote is the most important right we have as American citizens. We must not allow a bureaucrat to jeopardize our ability to participate in American democracy.

    Petition

To: Mary McClellan, McHenry County Clerk

The right to vote is the most important right we have as American citizens. The current plan to eliminate a large portion of the polling places in McHenry County is a threat to our democracy. We believe that cramming up to 10 precincts into one polling location, and moving many precincts to unfamiliar and inconvenient venues, will result in the disenfranchisement of thousands of McHenry County citizens, especially the elderly and disabled who will be the most inconvenienced by these drastic changes. Please cancel or delay this ill-advised and untested plan.
