October 2024 Road Cleanup
The Democratic Party of McHenry County has adopted a mile along Ackman Road, between Randall Road on the east and Golf Course Road on the west. We pick up the trash a few times per year, keeping our beautiful county clean, and besides the satisfaction of doing so, we get our name on a sign at a highly visible location on this heavily trafficked road.
WHEN: Wednesday, October 23, 2024 -- starting at 5:30 pm
WHERE: Woodscreek Park, 1420 Willow Tree Drive, Crystal LakePLEASE RSVP.
It's our last cleanup of the year, and it's fun. We'll be done by 7. Meet at the Woodscreek Park gazebo. Hot chocolate or cider provided. Dress warm and comfy, and it's a good idea to wear bright reflective colors. Bring your own gloves, and your own trash grabber if you want. We'll have grabbers, safety vests, and biodegradable trash bags.
And of course we all want to stay safe! Here's an important and recommended safety video.

Marengo Settlers' Day Parade
Last parade of the season, and it's an important one! Please join us for the 53rd annual Settlers' Days Parade in the beautiful town of Marengo.
WHEN: Sunday, October 13, 2024 -- step-off at 2:00 pm
WHERE: Calvin Spencer Park, Marengo, IllinoisWe are Number 15 in the parade, and our assembly point is on East Van Buren Street, on the north side of Calvin Spencer Park, between Hale Street on the west and Taylor Street on the east.
The parade route takes us:
- south on Taylor Street to Railroad Street
- west on Railroad Street to Route 23 (State Street, the official step-off point)
- south on State Street, past the reviewing stand, to Washington Street
- east on Washington Street to Prospect Street, by the Marengo Community Middle School.
For your convenience, you can park near the parade end, and we'll have a shuttle to run you over to the assembly point. Park either at the middle school (816 East Grant Highway), or in the gravel lot behind the drive-thru at Joe's Place (19716 East Grant Highway.) Watch for our big red van -- we'll pick you up either at the middle school or Joe's Place, starting at 11am. The last shuttle will depart from Joe's Place at 1pm sharp. After the parade, we can shuttle you back to Joe's Place.
And after the parade, we will be celebrating ... the conclusion of an important day, and the last parade of the season, the first season with our spiffy new float. We've reserved the alcove on the first floor of Joe's Place for our party. Hope you can make it.
This year's parade theme is "Nightmare on Main Street", so please feel free to dress appropriately.
It will be crowded so please plan to arrive early.
