Make a Difference With Your Dollars
Each of us can make a difference by choosing how we spend our precious funds, avoiding, as much as practicable, corporations that facilitate the brutal actions of ICE.
For a detailed listing of such corporations, visit boycottcitizens.org, an organization devoted to publicizing corporate complicity in the actions of ICE and related agencies and to organizing direct action against the worst offenders. The page boycottcitizens.org/ice has a lengthy list of corporations facilitating our government’s war on our communities.
This article, published at Truthout, “Here’s How We Pressured an Airline to End Its Contract With ICE” describes the campaign focusing on Avelos Airline, a provider of deportation flights, which recently announced it would cut ties with ICE.
For information on efforts to designate specific days to avoid spending, visit nationalshutdown.org.

llinois Versus Trump: One Lawsuit A Week
Think there's no difference between the parties? Check out this January 28th article from Capitol News Illinois:
"SPRINGFIELD — Illinois has filed lawsuits early and often against the Trump administration since the president’s return to power last year. The state challenged Trump’s executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship less than a day after he took office. Fifty more suits followed as of late January — roughly one per week. “'It’s been 365 days, but together, we remain resolute and clear-eyed and ready to continue our fight,' Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul said at a Chicago news conference this month.. He added, though, that 'the strain has been a real one.'"

Let the Sun Shine In - Board Reporting
“Sunlight is the best disinfectant,” or so the saying goes, and we would argue that sunshine on government operations is fundamental to our democracy. The public’s right to know must be protected because transparency and openness are the most effective ways to prevent corruption, wrongdoing, and bad government. One important way to make sure that decisions are made with public input and oversight is to have observers at government meetings.
Our federal government, all 50 states and the District of Columbia have passed “sunshine” laws, but the laws are only as effective as the public’s demand that they be followed. The people do this through their active participation and interest in their government.
Volunteers have stepped up and are making it their mission to attend local board meetings and report what they see and hear. This is particularly important when controversial items or issues of importance are being discussed or action taken. Their reports will be posted here, and we invite you to follow what is happening in your local community and answer the call to action when necessary.

Ruth Scifo published Municipal Election Recommendations in County & Local Candidates 2025-03-13 08:47:08 -0500
CANDIDATE RECOMMENDATIONS
Municipal Election 2025Read MoreThere are many races on the ballot for the April 1st Consolidated Election, and we have done our best to assemble a guide to help you in your selections. Please read the explanation below to correctly interpret the guide.
We have listed ONLY those races that meet one or more of the following criteria:
- which are contested,
- where we have a recommendation either for or against,
- where there is NO CANDIDATE.
These are just recommendations, not endorsements, as the Party does not endorse in non-partisan races.
The candidates recommended by the Democratic Party of McHenry County are indicated with a filled circle
in the sample ballot shown below. In some cases, there are more recommended candidates than seats. If voting on a paper ballot, fill in the dot next to these candidates. DO NOT MAKE ANY OTHER MARKS ON YOUR BALLOT!Official write-in candidates are also indicated, but remember, you must write out your choices on the ballot. Polling places are required to post write-in candidate lists. We recommend only those write-in candidates indicated with a filled circle.
There are races where we recommend candidates NOT be elected. Those names are struck out with a line through them. DO NOT VOTE FOR THEM BUT DO NOT CROSS ANY NAMES OFF ON YOUR BALLOT!
There are races where we did not recommend the candidate or strike them out. They have either asked not to be recommended, or we don't have enough information about them to recommend them, however, we do not believe they are associated with any right-wing or Republican groups.
NO CANDIDATE races have been included to encourage you to consider applying for an open position after the election is over.
Remember - Voting for only the candidates you prefer is perfectly acceptable. Not only is it acceptable, it is recommended! You don't have to vote for the number indicated (e.g., when it says Vote for 3, you can vote for 1 or 2 - or none at all). Bullet voting - or only voting for one candidate or just the Democrats/recommended candidates in an election - will help them in multi-seat races.
